Frequently Asked Questions for Middle School

Q: Who is eligible?
A: League-age 13–15 players in grades 6–8. Managers prioritize 8th graders, then fill roster gaps with 7th graders. Exceptionally skilled 6th graders may be considered over 7th graders but require a waiver. League-age 12 players are not eligible.

Q: Which leagues participate?
A: LSLL teams compete against Central Loudoun (CLLL), Dulles (DLL), Lower Loudoun (LLLL), and Upper Loudoun (ULLL) middle school teams.

Q: What if my player attends Stone Hill but lives outside LSLL boundaries?
A: Players must register with the league serving their zoned school.  Stone Hill players register with LSLL, even if residing in DLL boundaries.

Q: When are tryouts?
A: Tryouts are typically held in February at Paul VI High School. Exact dates will be announced after registration.

Q: What is the roster size?
A: Teams will carry 16–18 players beginning Spring 2026.

Q: What is the time commitment?
A: Teams generally practice once per week and play two weekday games (Monday and Thursday). Additional practices may be scheduled as field space allows. No weekend games.

Q: Can players also play travel baseball?
A: Yes. LSLL encourages families to coordinate with their middle school coach and travel coach to ensure player safety and health is being prioritized as well as their overall development.

Q: Is there an additional cost?
A: No. Standard LSLL registration fees apply. Players are placed on a waitlist until selected at tryouts. Payment is due within 24 hours of selection to secure a roster spot.

Q: What if my player is not selected?
A: Players may join the Juniors Division, though participation is optional but strongly encouraged.

Q: Who coaches the teams?
A: Volunteer coaches approved by the LSLL Board of Directors. Interested candidates should contact the Vice President/Division Commissioner at [email protected].

Q: Does participation affect All-Star eligibility?
A: No.  Middle School players, League Age 14 and below, are eligible to participate in the Juniors All Star Program.

Q: Are there special rules?
A: The program follows LLI Seniors rules. All players must use a BBCOR -3 bat. Unlike Juniors, there are no mandatory playtime requirements.

Q: Who do I contact with questions?
A: Email the Vice President at [email protected].
